Carcassonne

Carcassonne is a town in the south of France, in the Occitanie region. It is renowned for its rich historical heritage and well-preserved medieval architecture. The town is on the banks of the River Aude and, of course, crossed by the famous Canal du Midi, adding to its charms.
Best known for its fortified medieval city, Carcassonne attracts many visitors from all over the world every year. The Cité de Carcassonne has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, a testament to its cultural and historical importance.
The city is surrounded by impressive ramparts dating back to the 3rd century BC and reinforced in the 13th century. Towers, battlements, cobbled streets and well-preserved medieval buildings give visitors the impression of travelling back in time.
Every 14th July (Bastille day) since 1898, the medieval city of Carcassonne has hosted a dazzling fireworks display and a blaze that is unique in the world.
